Blockchain
Immutability
Blockchain is a specific type of database that stores data in blocks connected through complex cryptographic protocols. It is almost impossible to compromise the data stored on the blockchain because any changes to one block immediately corrupt the data in other blocks. This is due to the immutability of the blockchain.
Blockchain Characteristics
Immutability
Blockchain is characterized by its immutability, which means that once data is created, it cannot be changed. This ensures that the data can be traced reliably and serves as a fraud prevention mechanism.
Decentralization
Blockchain is decentralized, meaning that it is not controlled by a single entity. Each node on the network has a full record of the data that has been stored on the blockchain since its inception. This decentralization is a key feature of blockchain technology.
Transparency
Blockchain provides transparency by allowing anyone to see every transaction and related information through so-called block explorers. This provides a clear audit trail of all transactions.
Blockchain vs. Bitcoin
Bitcoin is a specific type of blockchain that uses blockchain as a means to transparently record a ledger of payments. While Bitcoin is primarily used for transactions, blockchain can be used to store any number of data points, including transactions, votes in elections, product invent
