The plan involves the implementation of a nationwide rollout of the digital yuan, with banks, airports, and provinces working together to increase its use.
Paralympics and Winter Olympics Boosts Digital Yuan Adoption
The Paralympics, which begin on March 4, will see overseas attendees invited to use the digital yuan at Olympic venues in Beijing and other parts of the country hosting events. This is part of a pilot program that aims to further the digital yuan’s adoption.
Provinces and Cities Show Interest in Digital Yuan
Several Chinese provinces, including Henan, have expressed their intention to advance the pilot in the “digital economy” section of their five-year plans. Henan Province, for instance, has stated its intention to “clear strides” in the pilot, although the central People’s Bank of China (PBoC) has yet to announce an official launch date.
