Edward Zimbardi, the alleged mastermind behind a massive digital asset investment fraud scheme, has been deported from Fiji to face trial in the US. According to federal prosecutors in the Northern District of Georgia, Zimbardi's scheme, known as The Crypto Program, misappropriated $165 million from thousands of investors worldwide between June 2022 and August 2023.
The scheme promised investors guaranteed monthly returns of 25% through advertising package purchases, but instead, Zimbardi allegedly used the funds for high-risk foreign currency trades, personal expenditures, and to satisfy withdrawal requests from earlier investors.
Fraud Scheme Details
Zimbardi's alleged fraud scheme involved promoting The Crypto Program, which promised fixed monthly distributions, a classic indicator of crypto fraud. Victims transferred over $165 million in digital currencies directly into private wallets controlled by Zimbardi. Instead of funding advertising operations, Zimbardi allegedly gambled over $34 million on high-risk foreign currency trades, sustaining severe financial losses.
Investigation and Extradition
Federal agencies have prioritized cross-border cooperation to pursue fugitives in crypto fraud cases. Zimbardi fled to Hawaii and multiple international destinations to evade law enforcement agencies but was eventually relocated to Fiji in July 2025. Fijian authorities coordinated with American diplomatic officials to arrest and deport Zimbardi on August 14, following the unsealing of the indictment.

Theodore S. Hertzberg, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Georgia, stated that Zimbardi 'allegedly tricked thousands of people to invest in his Crypto Program with false promises of enormous returns.' Zimbardi made his initial court appearance before a federal magistrate judge in Los Angeles, where government attorneys argued for continued pre-trial detention. Victims are instructed to submit transaction information through the official FBI Crypto Program Victim Portal to assist law enforcement officers.
