Bitcoin.com has integrated USDU, the first US dollar-backed stablecoin registered with the Central Bank of the UAE, into its self-custodial wallet. This partnership with Universal Digital Intl. Limited allows users to hold, send, and receive USDU as an ERC-20 token on Ethereum. The integration, announced on August 19, 2026, marks USDU's first major retail distribution channel, expanding its reach beyond institutional corridors.
Stablecoin Details
USDU is backed 1:1 by liquid US dollar reserves held at Emirates NBD and Mashreq, with monthly independent attestations verifying those reserves published on Universal's website. The smart contract underpinning USDU was audited by CertiK, and Universal Digital is regulated by the Financial Services Regulatory Authority within the Abu Dhabi Global Market.
Partnership and Roadmap
According to Bitcoin.com CEO Corbin Fraser, transparency drove the partnership, while Universal's CEO Juha Viitala sees it as a natural pairing of self-custody philosophy and regulatory assurance. Bitcoin.com plans to expand USDU's functionality, including peer-to-peer payments, educational tools, and third-party swap integrations, with potential acceptance of USDU as payment for its services.
