Multicoin Capital has deposited roughly 308,884 HYPE tokens, worth over $19.8 million, into Coinbase Prime across a seven-hour window. This move follows a broader pattern of large-scale transfers stretching back weeks, raising questions about whether one of HYPE's biggest holders is quietly reducing its exposure. According to the transfer data, Multicoin has funneled tens of millions in HYPE tokens to the institutional exchange over recent weeks, with the market reacting accordingly.
Transfer Context
Multicoin accumulated more than $100 million in HYPE since February 2026, making it one of the firm's largest liquid fund positions. The firm has transferred approximately 395,570 HYPE, valued near $23.8 million, into Coinbase Prime around July 21-22, followed by a tranche of roughly 86,000 HYPE, worth about $4.78 million.
Market Impact
HYPE's price has reflected the unease, trading between roughly $55 and $70 recently. During July 2026, comparable large deposits correlated with declines of around 8% in HYPE's price.
HYPE Token
HYPE is the native token of the Hyperliquid Layer-1 blockchain, used for staking and governance. The staking mechanism is structured to return nearly all protocol revenue back into the ecosystem, with 92% of fees directed toward buybacks.
Multicoin's Thesis
Multicoin has published a valuation report projecting a base-case price of roughly $319 for HYPE by 2028, anchored to an expectation that Hyperliquid's annual earnings would scale to approximately $8 billion. However, the firm's recent actions have sparked scrutiny, as depositing tens of millions in tokens to an exchange known for facilitating institutional trades may indicate a reduction in exposure.
