The MiCA Crypto Alliance has launched its MiCA CASP Tracker, a searchable directory for EU crypto licences. The tool, introduced on August 5, allows users to check whether a company appears in the European Securities and Markets Authority's (ESMA) Markets in Crypto-Assets register and review the services it may legally provide. Each profile can show the firm’s name, Legal Entity Identifier, home country, national regulator, authorisation date and approved service categories.
Key Features
The tracker adds search and comparison functions to ESMA's interim MiCA register, enabling users to filter records by company, country, regulator or authorised service. This can help customers distinguish between firms approved for different services, such as custody or trading platform operation.
Regulatory Context
The MiCA Regulation defines ten regulated crypto services, including custody, trading platform operation and crypto-to-fiat exchange. A company’s appearance in the register does not mean every product it offers falls under MiCA, as some services like crypto lending and borrowing are not covered by the regulation.
Verification Importance
The tracker arrives after MiCA’s main transition period ended on July 1, and ESMA instructed unauthorised providers to stop accepting new EU clients. Customers using unauthorised platforms do not receive MiCA safeguards, including protections covering client assets. The MiCA Crypto Alliance stresses that its tracker is an independent research tool, and users should still verify providers through ESMA's official register.
