BlackRock's Daily Reinvestment Stablecoin Reserve Vehicle (BRSRV) has received an AAAm rating from S&P Global Ratings, indicating its expected ability to maintain principal stability and limit losses caused by credit risk. The rating was assigned on August 3, the same day the fund began operating, with $50 million in assets and a $1.00 net asset value as of August 4. According to S&P, the rating is based on the creditworthiness of the fund's investments and counterparties, its maturity structure, and BlackRock Advisors' policies for maintaining a stable net asset value.
Fund Details
The BRSRV invests 100% of its assets in cash, U.S. Treasury obligations maturing within 93 days, and overnight repurchase agreements secured by Treasury instruments. The fund's portfolio must maintain a dollar-weighted average maturity of no more than 60 days and a weighted average life of no more than 120 days.
Regulatory Context
The fund's launch is part of BlackRock's expansion into regulated blockchain infrastructure, with the goal of qualifying its OnChain Shares as eligible reserves for permitted payment stablecoin issuers under the GENIUS Act and related regulations.
Market Implications
The AAAm rating gives BRSRV an external measure of its portfolio and management controls, but it does not establish demand from stablecoin issuers. The fund's asset growth, blockchain expansion, and adoption by named stablecoin issuers will provide the clearest evidence of whether the product becomes a widely used reserve vehicle.
