"" Takeover Proposal Sends EQT Holdings Stock Soaring
EQT Holdings stock surged 19.4% to A$20.66 on Tuesday, following a takeover proposal from U.S.-based private equity firm TPG Global. The proposal, valued at approximately A$657.8 million, or A$24.55 per share, represents a 41.8% premium to the previous session's closing price.
The proposal, disclosed on August 18, 2026, immediately became the dominant catalyst for one of the most dramatic single-day moves the stock has seen in recent memory. Shares opened at A$20.05 and reached an intraday high of A$21.46.
The gap between the trading price and the indicative offer price reflects the conditional nature of the proposal, which remains subject to approval from TPG's Investment Review Committee and the completion of due diligence. As a result, investors are pricing in execution risk.
EQT Holdings rose past a sluggish performance in the ASX 200, which rose slightly on Tuesday.
