How does it work?

Near Protocol operates on a Proof-of-Stake (PoS) consensus mechanism. It lowers entry barriers for developers by offering a web-like development environment supporting popular programming languages. The native NEAR token powers the network, serving as transaction gas, a staking asset for validators, and a governance tool for holders to vote on network upgrades.
