What is Flux (FLUX)?

Flux is a decentralized computational ecosystem designed to support the Web3 internet. Acting as a decentralized alternative to traditional cloud providers like AWS or Google Cloud, Flux allows users to host applications and websites across a global network of decentralized nodes. The FLUX token serves as the ecosystem’s native currency, powering payments, governance, and collateral requirements.

How does it work?

Flux utilizes a Proof-of-Work (PoW) consensus mechanism, rewarding contributors for providing hardware resources. Thousands of distributed “FluxNodes” provide the necessary computing power to run the network. Central to this is FluxOS, a Linux-based operating system that enables developers to deploy and run decentralized applications across the node network, ensuring high availability and censorship resistance.

What makes it unique?

  • Decentralized Cloud: Removes reliance on centralized server rooms by leveraging community-provided hardware.
  • Parallel Assets: Flux maintains interoperability through parallel assets on blockchains like Ethereum, BNB Chain, and Solana.
  • Scalable Infrastructure: Designed to provide a reliable, distributed infrastructure for modern web applications.
  • Token Utility: FLUX is required for transaction fees, node collateral, and incentivizing the network participants who secure and operate the infrastructure.

Evolution and Outlook

Launched in 2018 (originally as ZelCash), the project was co-founded by Daniel Keller. By evolving into a comprehensive ecosystem, Flux has transitioned from a simple cryptocurrency to a fundamental layer of the decentralized web. As the shift toward Web3 continues, Flux aims to capture demand for censorship-resistant infrastructure. Market analysts maintain long-term growth projections, emphasizing the platform’s utility as it matures within the decentralized cloud computing market.
