"" Solana Identity to Shut Down Operations
Solana Identity, a protocol that enabled users to create onchain reputation profiles within the Solana ecosystem, has announced its shutdown. The ID Hub, API, and Display Network will cease functioning by September 30, 2026, and user data will be deleted by December 31, 2026.
The protocol, which operated a "data-2-earn" model, allowed verifiers to pay for access to identity data and users to earn rewards in return. However, the company has now burned its treasury holdings of $SOLID, the native token, and will no longer provide identity services.
Developers who built applications relying on Solana ID's verification services have until September 30, 2026, to migrate to alternative solutions. Users who want to preserve their data should act before the year-end deadline, as those who don't opt in will have their information permanently deleted.
What This Means for the Solana Ecosystem
The shutdown of Solana Identity marks the end of an era for identity verification on the Solana blockchain. Civic, another identity verification layer on Solana, continues to operate, while the Solana Attestation Service provides a different technical foundation for identity-related use cases.
The $SOLID token, which was used to fund the protocol, remains tradeable on-chain with locked liquidity pools. However, its value is now uncertain, as the protocol behind it has ceased operations.
